Toss New Zealand chose to bat v India
New Zealand hoped to turn their fortunes from Hyderabad around by winning the toss and choosing to bat, having left out Chris Martin out of the XI and bringing Tim Southee in for him. Ross Taylor said his team wanted to forget about the first Test, which they lost by an innings and 115 runs, saying, "We must try to take whatever positives they were. We are still in the series and if we play well, we can show faith to the fans back home.
India will play with the same XI as in Hyderabad, with captain MS Dhoni saying, the Bangalore track looked far harder than Hyderabad, with a bit of grass. India hoped to begin the Bangalore Test by making the batsmen "play as much as possible".
The conditions in Bangalore are overcast, with seam movement expected in the early part of the match. Sunil Gavaskar said on television, the surface in Bangalore was slightly different to the one on which the previous Bangalore Test had been played on, against Australia in 2010. He called it "typically Indian", saying after assisting the seamers for the first hour it would flatten out for batting and later begin to turn. Showers are expected during the course of the game.
